Sweet Sparrow - SOLD

I just love watching birds. I think I get my love of birds from my mom who was always excited to see a cardinal or a mourning dove. This is a 4 x 4 inch painting available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view on Etsy.

Jackrabbit Run

Jackrabbits are very wary and most are easily spooked. But I live on the Colorado prairie and my yard is an oasis for them. I love to watch them from my windows. This painting is a 5 x 7 oil and is available on Etsy. Click here to view it and my other available art.

Pet Portrait - SOLD

I did this painting for one of my favorite friends, Sue Kline, who commissioned this pet portrait as a wedding gift. The newlyweds chose the photo I worked from. It was this pup's first hunt.

Capital Reef National Park - SOLD

My husband and I visited Capital Reef, a national park in the middle of Utah, this past spring. The skies were fantastic especially after storms. This scene gives you a sense of how big the clouds are even above the large red rocks of the Capital Reef. This 12 x 24 painting is available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to go to Etsy.

House Sparrow - SOLD

I experimented with the background sky in another sparrow painting. This time I wiped out color to give a more atmospheric feel. This is an unframed 6 x 6 oil on canvas panel available in my Etsy gallery for $100. Click here to view in Etsy.

Milk Cow in Moonlight - SOLD

I saw this milk cow on the way home from a vacation in Utah. She kept staring at me while I took her picture. All of a sudden she decided I was too scary, turned around and ran down the hill. This is a 6 x 6 inch unframed oil painting available in my Etsy shop.

This young jack was in my back yard. Something spooked him and he took off like a bullet. Just an excuse to run. The young ones have lots of energy. This 6 x 6 inch oil painting is available in my Etsy shop.

Red Tag - SOLD

Cow portraits have become a pretty common subject in the Daily Painting scene. I've always wondered about that not thinking cows were very interesting. Now that I've finally tried painting one, I take that back. Painting this guy (I think it's a guy) was delightful! He overflows with personality. This painting is available on Etsy for $100. Click here to go to Etsy.

Bird in a Bush

I am always fascinated with how birds just seem to disappear in bushes and trees. Their camouflage is perfect. This is a 6 x 6 inch oil painting available in my Etsy shop. Click here go to my shop.

Caught this jackrabbit with the sun shining through its ears. Yes, they really are that red and that BIG. Available in my Etsy shop.

Siesta

The challenge in this painting (besides all the legs) was that the light is almost directly above the horses taking their noonday siesta. That puts the head of the sleeping horse in shadow. I'm planning to do a larger painting of this but wanted to work out the color first. Not sure I've got it figured out yet. This is available in my Etsy shop.

Antelope On Alert

I have painted this group of 3 antelope before. This time I used a limited palette — Ivory black, Yellow ochre, Terra rosa, and white — similar to the palette used by painter Anders Zorn. I was able to mix all the colors I needed. The plus side is that using only these colors created a color harmony without my having to think about it. This 8 x 8 unframed painting is available in my Etsy shop.

Prairie Sunrise - SOLD

A spectacular Colorado prairie sunrise. The photo doesn't do the painting justice. I was going to wipe this one but decided to try using a fan brush to feather the edges. That opened up new possibilities and saved the day. Another example of "Don't give up too soon!" This is an 8 x 16 inch oil available in my Etsy shop.

Deer in Tall Grass

These deer were grazing just outside an aspen grove next to the road that enters the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. I was struck by how well hidden they were in the grass almost disappearing when their heads were down. Beautiful creatures in beautiful light. This painting is available in my Etsy shop. Click here to view it and other available paintings.

February 17 • Birds in Morning Light - SOLD

I'm learning that painting is all about the light no matter what the subject is. I love painting birds because they are so darn cute and full of personality. But what I like about this painting is the way the light sets the mood. This is a 5 x 10 inch oil available in my Etsy shop. Click here to see it and my other available paintings and prints.

February 11 • Suburban Sparrow - SOLD

So much for a bird-a-day in February. I have painted almost every day but even when I do manage to get a painting done, that doesn't mean it's good enough to post. I'm happy with this one. He's definitely got personality. This is a 6 x 6 inch oil available in my Etsy shop.

February 3 • Winter Light

Bird Number 3. This is a female finch in winter morning light. The board I used happened to be one that I'd painted over with new primer to cover an old painting. It made the surface really slippery compared to a new canvas board. I almost started over. Then I thought, "Maybe I'll discover something new." I learned I like fresh canvas better : ) This painting is available in my Etsy store.

February 2 • Sparrow on Grapevine - SOLD

Painting number 2 in my February paint a bird a day saga. We'll see how far I get : ) This is a 4 x 4 oil painting available in a Daily Paintworks auction. Click here to bid.

Collector Comment

Love this collector : )

I picked this package up at the post office with great anticipation but, with great restraint, decided to wait until I got home to open it. As I was slowly heading up the driveway at dusk, I came upon a half dozen deer, does and young from this past year. They just stood there and watched me, only a stone's throw away. I had this painting in my mind as I studied them, and was even more eager to open the package when I got in the front door. What an amazing work of art was in my hands. Pam has an incredible gift in her ability to capture the nature of these creatures. I look at this painting and get the sense that this doe and fawn are watching me but could bolt any second, disappearing in a flash. I am so lucky to have this and will treasure it always. Thank you Pam.

Deer and Aspen - SOLD

My husband and I visited the North Rim of Grand Canyon last September. The road in is surrounded my large meadows with aspen groves. The deer graze close to the aspens so they can run for cover if they need to. This is one of many we saw. This painting is available in my Etsy shop. Click here to see it and my other paintings/prints.
