Storm clouds form like this on the prairie behind my home. This one got especially beautiful at sunset. This is a 10 x 20 inch oil painting on a canvas panel available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view on Etsy.

I've been wanting to start working on sculptures of jackrabbits. I thought a good beginning would be to do some drawings. Drawing helps you see how every part relates. This is a young jackrabbit (sort of a teenager) that was hanging around our house this summer — 7.5 x 10 charcoal drawing on paper.

I recently painted a 4 x 4 inch version of this meadowlark that sold. So this is a 6 x 6 inch. I am always surprised at what happens when I paint the same thing again. It can be very different from the first. A different moment in time creates something truly unique. This painting is available in my Etsy gallery. Another painting of the storm that appeared over Pueblo, Colorado a few weeks ago and lasted into the evening. When the lightning flashed it created an orange glow and lit up the rain. This is a 12 x 12 gallery wrapped oil painting. It has 1.5 inch sides. The painting extends on to the sides. Available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view on Etsy.

There was an incredible storm cloud over Pueblo, Colorado a few weeks ago that inspired this painting. When the lightning inside the cloud flashed it would color the rain orange. Beautiful! I'm saving this for a show but if you are interested in purchasing please contact me by email here.

One of my favorite birds. Meadowlarks have a beautiful song. They will perch on the telephone lines and sing to each other as the sun sets. I've often wondered if birds think sunsets are beautiful too. This is a little 4 x 4 inch painting available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view on Etsy.

This jackrabbit just finished washing its ear. They drag their front foot over the whole length to clean it. This ear didn't quite pop back up yet : ) This is a 6 x 6 oil painting available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view this and my other work on Etsy.

I live on the Colorado prairie. This jackrabbit wandered into my yard about sundown. He was covered with an orange glow and his eye reflected the sun. I think he knew I was watching him : ) This is an unframed 5 x 7 inch oil on canvas panel available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to go to Etsy.

I was sitting in my car in a Walmart parking lot and saw this woman heading home about dinner time. The sun was setting and cast these odd zigzag shadow shapes on the pavement. Inspired I took her photo. I wonder what she would think if she knew I painted this everyday moment in her life. This is a 6 x 6 inch painting available in my Etsy gallery. I painted the value study of the cowboy last year but felt frozen as to how to move forward to make it into a painting. So it sat. Last weekend I took a painting workshop with artist Kim Mackey. He guided me through the process. I'm happy with the result. But it seems like the more I paint the more I realize how far I have to go. It's like learning to play the piano. Practice, practice, practice so that the music starts to flow. This is an 11 x 14 oil available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view it and my other paintings.

I have been sick with an awful cold virus for a month. Before that I was taking a class on color with artist Jill Soukup. This painting was done using 4 colors next to each other on the color wheel. It's a 6 x 6 inch oil painting available in my Etsy gallery. Click here to view on Etsy.

I'm taking a class with artist Jill Soukup in Denver on color. The significant thing for me in this painting is that I worked from a black and white photo. I had to create the color in my head. It helped me move away from just painting the photo. I tend to be too detail oriented. Anything that pushes me away from that is good : ) This is an 8 x 10 painting available in my Etsy gallery.
