This sheep was in Monument Valley where the dirt is very red and the light is intense. I used a bit of metallic copper paint to add to the sense of light. This is a 5 x 7 oil painting available in my Etsy shop.

Cow portraits have become a pretty common subject in the Daily Painting scene. I've always wondered about that not thinking cows were very interesting. Bird in a Bush

Red Eye Jackrabbit

Caught this jackrabbit with the sun shining through its ears. Yes, they really are that red and that BIG. Available in my Etsy shop.

Siesta

The challenge in this painting (besides all the legs) was that the light is almost directly above the horses taking their noonday siesta. That puts the head of the sleeping horse in shadow. I'm planning to do a larger painting of this but wanted to work out the color first. Not sure I've got it figured out yet. This is available in my Etsy shop.

Antelope On Alert

I have painted this group of 3 antelope before. This time I used a limited palette — Ivory black, Yellow ochre, Terra rosa, and white — similar to the palette used by painter Anders Zorn. I was able to mix all the colors I needed. The plus side is that using only these colors created a color harmony without my having to think about it.
