Meadowlark - SOLD

Meadowlarks are wonderful birds to listen to and a common sight on the Colorado prairie. Not as common as they used to be though. I got a photo of this one on the ground. Usually they are on telephone lines or rooftops singing away. I was happy to be able to paint one in their natural environment. Even with that bright yellow color they are hard to spot. This is a 5 x 7 inch oil painting that was sold last week for $100 to a local birding legend : )

Baby Bison - SOLD

My husband and I did the bison tour at the Zapata Ranch near the Great Sand Dunes National Park this Spring where we saw lots of baby bison. The ranch hands call them pumpkins because of their color. The Rocky Mountain Iris was blooming. Beautiful! This is a 5 x 10 inch framed oil painting on a canvas panel and is available for $200 at the John Deaux Gallery in Pueblo, CO. Call the gallery at (719) 545-8407 to purchase or contact me via email.

Jackrabbit Camo - SOLD

I saw this jackrabbit in a field as I was driving down our street but I didn't have my camera. I backed up into our driveway, grabbed my camera and went back out praying the rabbit would still be there. It was! I was so excited because I wanted to get photos of a jackrabbit in its natural place on the prairie. They are perfectly camouflaged and hard to see. My goal in this painting was not just to paint a cute rabbit but to show its environment — prickly pear cactus and all.

This framed painting is available at the John Deaux Gallery in Pueblo, CO for $120. Call 719-545-8407 to purchase.

Bison Spring - SOLD

We went back to the Zapata Ranch last weekend hoping to see some "pumpkins" — baby bison. The people at the ranch call them that because of their orange color. Not only did we see a lot of pumpkins and their moms but we were given an extra treat. Rocky Mountain Iris was blooming all around the bison with the sand dunes and mountains in the background. The quintessential American west. I took over 300 photos. The weather was perfect! It couldn't have been a better day. We were also treated with a tour of the historic 1917 ranch house and barn where we saw two porcupines in a tree. I don't think I've ever seen a porcupine in the wild before. There were also three horned owls in trees around the house. I painted this 8 x8 inch oil after our trip. This framed painting will be available through the John Deaux Gallery in Pueblo, Colorado for $250. Call (719-251-4576) me if you are interested in making this painting part of your collection.

Pueblo West Sundown - SOLD

Our new home on the prairie in southern Colorado has a full horizon view to the west. Sometimes the sunsets fill me with a feeling of awe. Lately I’ve been standing on the front porch to watch the colors shift as the sun goes down. Just when I think it couldn’t be more beautiful, it is. I’m using this longer horizontal format to try to capture more of the vista.

This painting is done in oil on an 8 x 16 inch canvas board. This framed painting is available at the John Deaux Gallery in Pueblo, CO for $270. Call the gallery at 719-545-8407 or email me to purchase.

My New Studio Space

Here's my new studio space for painting. A big window with lots of natural light, a floor I can drop a brush on and not panic, a ceiling fan, and close to the kitchen [coffee]. Alleluia! I'll be painting the view from that window many times over.

Antelope on Alert - SOLD

I'm painting again! I was starting to wonder if I ever would or even could. I've been absorbed in tiling and remodel projects in our new house. This is a small oil (8 x 8) done from a photo I took of a herd of antelope I saw along Hwy 50 in Pueblo West last fall. You can purchase this oil painting at the John Deaux Gallery in Pueblo, CO for $200. Call the gallery at 719-545-8407 to purchase.
